Hongcun is an ancient village in the Chinese province of Anhui. Many of the buildings are more than 800 years old. They date back to the Song Dynasty (A.D. 960 – 1279). The constructions in the village are regarded as the best examples of the typical Anhui-style architecture.
Hongcun is believed to have the shape of an ox. From above the mountains become the head, the old trees the horns, and the houses the body.
Hongcun symbolizes harmony. The perfect marriage between architecture and landscape.
Hongcun is considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in China.In 2000, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
