Since the series first aired on Netflix in 2020, ‘Emily in Paris’ has become one of the streaming platform’s most-loved shows. The fifth season appeared in December 2025 and proved to be an instant hit, with 26.8 million views globally in just 11 days. Unsurprisingly, that success led Netflix to announce a sixth season, and filming is scheduled to kick off in May 2026.

Over the past few seasons, Emily Cooper (played by Lilly Collins) has travelled to a myriad of locations. Paris, Rome, Venice, Saint Tropez, and Megève were used as glamorous filming backdrops for Emily’s often not-so-realistic lifestyle, which even led to a stark increase in TV tourism in France.

The sixth season, which sees the return of key cast members including Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and Andrew Fleming, will embark on yet another series of adventures. During a special panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles on 10 April 2026, Netflix announced the production of the next season, to be scheduled to run from 11 May to 30 September 2026. According to ‘Emily in Paris’ creator Darren Star, that includes filming locations in Greece and Monaco.

At the moment of writing, little is known about the plot of the sixth season other than those two locations and the start of the filming process. However, those who have watched the fifth instalment of ‘Emily in Paris’ will know that Emily’s on-again, off-again lover Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo) sent Emily a postcard in the season finale, inviting her on a Greek getaway. The fact that the sixth season will be partially filmed in Greece may thus point towards a new romantic adventure between the two.

Where exactly will the series be filmed in Greece? Will Monaco’s Formula 1 and casino culture be part of the plot? And when should locals expect to run into the cast members during their daily outings? The internet is speculating about the specifics, but neither Netflix nor the actors have so far unveiled any other details.

Tourism-boosting cinema

However, chances are that tourism in both Monaco and Greece will experience a boost once the new season hits Netflix. Set-jetting, a trend causing travellers to plan trips around destinations they’ve seen on their favourite TV shows or movies, has become increasingly popular in recent years. According to a study by the French National Centre of Cinema (CNC), in 2023, more than half of the international tourists visiting France were convinced to do so by a series or movie, and The White Lotus has notoriously caused a spike in tourism with every new filming location.

The Philippine movie was screened at Bozar in Brussels for the 19^th International Film Festival for Young Audiences, Filem’On. Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Sunshine explores universal topics focusing on health, religion, and women’s rights.

The production attracted a diverse audience, including diplomats, students, cinema enthusiasts, members of the Philippine diaspora in Brussels, and members of the festival jury.

“We are so happy that a Filipino film has been selected to participate in this, the 19^th Filem’On International Film Festival for Young Audiences,” said Pablito A. Mendoza, Deputy Head of Post and Consul General at the Embassy of the Philippines to Belgium and Luxembourg.

Sunshine: A critically acclaimed production

For this year’s edition, Filem’On chose the theme “Boundless,” challenging the boundaries of the global society of the 21^st century. In a world where anyone can move freely and meet across national borders, people often challenge their perception of identity and who they are. This year’s selection embodies that idea, with Sunshine being the perfect example: a local story that depicts cross-border issues.

The movie, which premiered in 2024, has won and been nominated for multiple awards.  “Sunshine is a film that won the Crystal Bear for Best Film at the 75^th Berlin International Film Festival, the Narrative Feature Jury Award and Narrative Feature Audience Award at the Austin Asian American Film Festival,” noted Mendoza. Besides this, the film has participated in the Toronto International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the San Diego Filipino Film Festival, and the New York Asian Film Festival.

“I understand that Sunshine is in competition for the CIFEJ Award, which is given by the International Centre for Children and Youth Film – Centre International du Film pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse (CIFEJ), an international organization dedicated to films for and by young people. We wish Sunshine the best of luck,” Mendoza concluded. Jury members of the CIFEJ award who attended the screening are Monica Wahi, curator, creative producer, and acquisition consultant; Anis Lassoued, director and producer at Lumière Films, and Andrey Hadjivasilev, director and producer at Revive Vision.

A story about women’s rights and resilience

The powerful drama successfully depicts the struggles of a teenager whose dreams are threatened by pregnancy. Maris Racal, in the role of Sunshine – the protagonist – does a marvellous job depicting the fears, helplessness, and determination of the young woman.

Racal shifts from misery to happiness in seconds, delivering not only an artistic performance but also an emotional journey of hope and despair. The narrative skilfully guides viewers through contemporary Philippine society and how the issue portrayed in the movie is being tackled not only by teenagers but also by adults.

Jadaone plunges into the unjust situation facing the main character, the prejudice, once people find out about Sunshine’s situation and the illegal actions taken to escape what had happened. But the director does not stop there. She briefly touches upon other issues in the country – inadequate hospital facilities, ignorance in disadvantaged communities, and leniency towards familial child abuse.

The film led to a deep discussion that raised questions about taboo and truth while shedding light on the viewers’ reflections.

Audience reactions

At the end of the screening, the moviegoers entered a discussion about the film’s meaning and background. One viewer was particularly curious about the context of the production and its reception. “In the Philippines, abortion is illegal, but what do locals think about it, and is it screened there?” they asked.

This question was answered by another spectator who was born and raised in Manila, in the Philippines. “The movie was screened first at international film festivals because the production team knew they would get a lot of pushback,” they said. The film crew relied on the acknowledgement it received internationally, which eventually brought it to the big screen in the Philippines. “It was a blockbuster success in the first two weeks,” they concluded.

Despite the potential pushback, another person from the crowd explained that Sunshine was “screened in the House of Representatives and in front of members of Congress,” noting that those who attended the event had “a positive” reaction to the film.

Several attendees from the Philippines confirmed that the movie truthfully depicts the reality in the country and the issues women face. “I appreciate the accuracy in terms of how some scenes were portrayed,” one said, highlighting the film’s authentic portrayal of societal challenges.

Filem’On will run until 5 November 2025, with a variety of screenings held at Bozar, Galeries, Cinematek, Kinograph, and other locations across Brussels.

Titled GET REAL: Relatability on Demand, the annual Teens & Screens report surveyed 1,500 young people aged 10 to 24. Conducted in August 2025, the study explores how young audiences perceive, discuss, and consume entertainment media.

The main finding this year is the continuing trend towards what researchers call ‘nomance’, with 59.7 percent of adolescents saying they prefer stories focused on friendship and platonic relationships, up from 51.5 percent last year. Another 48.4 percent feel that there’s “too much sex and sexual content in TV and movies”, while 62.4 percent agreed that sex isn’t necessary to advance a plot.

Yalda T. Uhls, founder and executive director of the CSS and co-author of the study, explains the shift by pointing to the pressures these generations have faced. “They’ve been exposed to huge stressors during their formative years – COVID and 24-hour news cycles,” she said.

While Fantasy topped last year’s preferences, Relatable Stories lead this year. Stories “that are like my personal life” received 32.7 percent of the vote, ahead of fantasy with 25.2 percent. Far fewer respondents expressed an interest in real-life issues impacting society (18.6%) or the lives of the rich and famous (7.2%). Young people do, however, want uplifting narratives about ordinary people beating the odds and overcoming difficulties with the support of friends, much like cartoon characters.

This explains the marked preference for animation, which rose from 42 percent in 2023 to 48.5 percent this year – a trend that is perhaps unsurprising in an era dominated by manga and anime.

The study also challenges assumptions about Gen Z’s viewing habits. Traditional media still attract America’s youth: 57 percent of respondents said they watch TV and movies more often than older generations realise, and 53 percent said they discuss films and TV shows with friends more frequently than short-form social media content.

For the second consecutive year, their most popular activity is ‘going to see a film at the cinema’, ahead of sports, gaming, or concerts.

“This study flips the script on the myth that Gen Z and Gen Alpha don’t care about TV or movies,” said Uhls. “It challenges some of the biggest assumptions about what they want to see.”

What distinguishes them from older generations is how they watch: Nearly 4 in 5 said they at least sometimes stream shows on YouTube or other social platforms rather than on television or in cinemas.

Friendship was the third most popular topic among adolescents, while romance was the second least popular.

Over 54 percent said they wanted stories about people uninterested in romance, a figure that rises to 57 percent among those under 18. Fifty-five percent prefer mixed-gender friendships that remain platonic.

The first and second most disliked tropes were toxic relationships and love triangles.

“Our findings really seemed to solidify a trend we found emerging in our data last year – that young people are tired of seeing the same dated and unrelatable romantic tropes on screen,” said Alisha J. Hines, director of research at the centre. “Teens and young adults want to see stories that more authentically reflect a full spectrum of nuanced relationships.”

The tides are definitely turning: whereas past generations pushed boundaries towards ever-raunchier content, Gen Z seems intent on redrawing them. Their favourite titles – Stranger Things, Wednesday, SpongeBob SquarePants, Spider-Man, and Family Guy – confirm that friendship and fantasy now take centre stage. On a hopeful note, romance isn’t entirely extinct, with The Vampire Diaries and The Summer I Turned Pretty tying for sixth place.

“‘Ted Lasso’ filming in Kansas City represents everything we’ve been working toward,” said Rachel Kephart, director of the KC Film Office, an organisation led by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, attempting to attract film, TV, and commercial productions to the city, while supporting the local entertainment industry growth.

These are some of the key filming spots so far. 

Gates Bar-B-Q

In the teaser scene posted on Instagram, Apple TV+ revealed that the Main Street location of the Gates Bar-B-Q will be featured in season four. The restaurant, one of five in the Kansas City area, is famous for its signature sauce and local specialty, burnt ends—the flavourful, caramelized pieces of meat cut from the point of a brisket. Fans of Ted Lasso can have a meal at the eatery once shooting has wrapped up.

Country Club Plaza

It is known that scenes for season four have been filmed at the Country Club Plaza, a historic downtown Kansas City shopping area known for its Spanish architecture and numerous fountains. The area offers a mix of designer shops and popular restaurants. Season four supposedly followed Ted coaching a women’s football team, and during filming at the Plaza, Sudeikis was spotted wearing a jacket with the Kansas City Current logo. Interestingly, the Current is the first National Women’s Soccer League Team to sell out all of its home games.

Suburb’s locations

Videos of the show being filmed in the Blue Springs neighbourhood have been circulating, which is likely to be the new home of the main character. After Ted Lasso’s return to Kansas at the end of season three, it appears his English friends have travelled from England to visit him. 

18^th & Vine District

The production crew also spent a whole day filming at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, located in Kansas City’s historic jazz district. This museum preserves and celebrates the history of African American baseball and its role in social change in America. It features a wide variety of photos, artifacts, and film exhibits for visitors to explore.

Filmed for the South Korean production called “Crash Landing On You”, a story of cross-border love between South and North Korea, one spot in particular, a pier at the lake’s edge, is presented in the hit show as a romantic getaway, and has become a hugely sought-after backdrop for souvenir photos and Instagram images.

There on the dock, in the 3^rd episode of “Crash Landing on You”, the character of army officer Ri Jeong-hyeok (played by Hyun Bin) remembers his time as a piano player and plays a song he composed for his brother.

But the reality of the jetty is a little less peaceful and idyllic these days. In fact, Iseltwald, a village of just 406 inhabitants, with only three hotels and four restaurants, is struggling to cope with the approximately 1,000 daily visitors drawn in by the TV drama, according to village clerk Gabriela Blatter.

To raise revenue to help pay for the additional work and infrastructure that the tourists necessitate, such as rubbish collection and disposal, servicing public bathrooms, and street cleaning, the village decided in 2023 to start charging guests to set foot on the small wooden pier that features in the series.

It’s not a question of making a profit, Titia Weiland, manager of the Bönigen-Iseltwald Tourism agency, told press, insisting: “It’s not correct to read it as ‘the community gets rich’”. But the strategy is nonetheless lucrative. Visitors paying the five-Swiss-franc fee (just over five euros) each to go through the lakeside turnstile generated €245,000 francs (€263,000) in 2024 alone, according to Blatter. What’s more, a nearby public toilet that charges one franc per use, has brought in 58,000 francs.

Some of those funds will go towards further projects. A car park is being improved to help accommodate the huge numbers of tour buses and cars that bring the tourists in and the village shop has expanded its opening hours to seven days a week.

While the village welcomes the visitors, and has even created a website to help them navigate the Crash Landing sights to see in Iseltwald, it has suffered, like destinations elsewhere, with the anti-social behaviour displayed by some who go there. Blatter said: “The problem is that the tourists don’t understand what’s private and what’s public. They go everywhere” – and that’s including residents’ private land and gardens. As a result, the website asks guests to respect the surroundings, dispose of litter correctly, and to help maintain the “quiet atmosphere of this authentic Swiss village”.

“Like something that came out of a nightmare movie” is how one passenger describes the Carnival Triumphcruise that drifted for five days with no power in the Gulf of Mexico in 2013 with 4,000 plus passengers and crew on board. Now that “movie” has come to screens in the form of Netflix’s Trainwreck: Poop Cruise.

“The worst thing ever”

Yes, you read that right. The indelicate nickname for the cruise came about because, when an engine room fire wiped out power around the entire ship, that included power to the vessel’s flushing toilets. For a grim few days, while the world’s media surrounded the cruise liner on small boats and helicopters and passengers called out for help, conditions on board slowly deteriorated, as toilets overflowed, cabin carpets were drenched in effluent, and civilised norms began to go out the window.

 “It’s disgusting. It’s the worst thing ever”, passenger Ann Barlow told CNN at the time. Her husband added that there was “sewage running down the walls and floors”.

Instead of enjoying the ship’s pools, water slides, bars, entertainment, and buffets, passengers had to queue for cold onion and cucumber sandwiches, abandon their cabins, and sleep in tents on deck.

“It got bad, fast.”

Perhaps the final humiliation came when the captain was forced to ask everyone to defecate into biohazard waste bags. “It got bad, fast,” is the understatement of the year from one of the talking heads in Netflix rendition of events.

Would-be watchers may be pleased to know they only have to endure one hour of the gory story, available on Netflix since 24 June 2025.  For passengers it was far longer. The 272-metre cruise liner eventually had to be towed to Mobile, Alabama, prolonging the ordeal for a further six hours before guests were able to disembark – some of them kissing the ground as they did so.

Described as in the press release as “ iconic food destinations,” are places such as
Shanhaiguan Road in Jiang’an District where morning vendors call out their menu as steam rising from sizzling pots. With nearly 30 breakfast stalls offering over 30 local delicacies, it’s claimed to be “a living encyclopedia of Wuhan’s breakfast culture.”

Meanwhile, Liangdao Street, reportedly beloved by regulars, is highlighted as a neighborhood that merits repeat visits thanks to its specials, like Zhao Shifu’s crispy pancakes, Xiong Taipo’s dumplings and Taiweiji’s mango sticky rice.

Cuisine as a universal language

The culinary episode also illustrates how cuisine serves as a universal language, bringing people together across cultures, noting that “whether drawn to familiar tastes or enticed by new discoveries, visitors are likely to find something that resonates deeply in this city’s vibrant food scene.” Overall the episode, says the ICC, is “just a glimpse into Wuhan” but also “an invitation to understand its soul through the stories told on every plate.”

Following the strict COVID restrictions imposed in the region, China has been boosting its travel and tourism sector through a range of measures, including reciprocal visa waivers, transit-specific visas and instant tax rebates on tourist purchases. Some destinations, such as Dalian in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, are aiming for a 50% increase in inbound tourists, according to the Global Times. For Wuhan, a government work report is targeting year-on-year GDP (GDP) growth of 6%.

In recent years, the practice of “set-jetting” has grown in popularity. The first season of The White Lotus brought attention to the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. After the show’s premiere, the resort experienced an unprecedented surge in demand and reported a 386% increase in bookings. Similarly, Sicily’s tourism industry saw a boom following The White Lotus season 2 release, creating a buzz around San Domenico Palace, another Four Seasons Hotel, where it was filmed. Now, after the new filming location for season 3 was revealed, Thailand has become a new hotspot on the map for every avid traveller. 

“We are honored to have amazing Thailand featured as the filming location for the highly anticipated upcoming season of The White Lotus,” said Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool in a press release following the announcement.

For its third season, The White Lotus moves to Thailand, with filming locations spread across three key areas: Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui. Since it was confirmed in early 2024 that the third season would be set in Thailand, there has been much discussion about the show’s inevitable influence on tourism. According to Hotels.com, booking interest for the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, which serves as the primary location, has increased by 40%.

Discovery has recently revealed in a press release that three properties owned by the upscale hotel chain Anantara — Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, and Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort —were also used as key locations for the show. The Anantara is currently offering a package called “The Lotus Awakening Escape” that aims to replicate some of the luxury enjoyed by The White Lotus characters.

Another spot that served as a backdrop for additional scenes was the exquisite Four Seasons Tented Camp in the Golden Triangle, nestled in the jungle near the borders of Laos and Myanmar. It is sure to charm hundreds of tourists with its authenticity.

The series also features iconic locations in Bangkok, showcasing the vibrant culture and high-end hospitality of the bustling capital. However, not all locations were made public; there are some must-visit gems, such as Chatuchak Weekend Market and Asiatique Riverfront Market, which would be perfect places to immerse yourself in the culture and appreciate the local cuisine. The monumental Buddhist temple Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, and the iconic Grand Palace are also hotspots on the map that definitely can’t be ignored.

From 9 February 2025 and airing every Sunday evening on VTM (as well as on VTMGO), the new reality TV show Welkom Aan Boord (Welcome on Board) will reveal an “exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of Brussels Airlines”, press materials say. It’s the result of a months-long filming project during which production company Geronimo Entertainment followed the day-to-day working lives of Brussels Airlines employees.

Beyond the concourse and into the skies

Other TV shows about airline workers have already provided hours of insight and entertainment for viewers, notably Airline UK, a British LWT production that followed budget airlines Britannia and EasyJet at various UK airports. It was so popular it ran for 11 seasons and nearly a decade from 1998 to 2007. Airline USA followed the same format, focusing on customer service staff efforts to assist passengers in crisis. 

But unlike those productions, an unusual aspect of VTM’s approach is the way it will follow Brussels Airline staff beyond the airport concourse, to take viewers airside and into the skies. 

“There have been programs about airports in the past, but they usually stop at the airplane door,” Emanuel Vanderjeugd, CEO of Geronimo Entertainment explains. “ What we wanted to know is: what happens next? What’s it like to lead a long-haul flight or prepare meals for hundreds of passengers at cruising altitude? That journey of discovery was often incredibly fascinating.”

“A world that truly captures the imagination”

Potential viewers may wonder what’s in it for an airline when it comes to the added security and hassle of taking care of a film crew on board, but a Brussels Airlines press release provides the answer: the carrier “hopes the series will inspire more people to pursue a career in aviation. Those interested can visit the Brussels Airlines job site for opportunities,” it said.

Expressing gratitude for how open and willing the staff were, Davy Parmentier, Channel Director, VTM, said in a statement: “A lot of people travel by plane. But the cockpit remains strictly off-limits to passengers at all times. It is there that crucial decisions are made—the beating heart of the aircraft, so to speak. We are delighted that, together with VTM, we can open that door for the first time and give viewers an exclusive look into a world that truly captures the imagination.”

For the moment, the programme will only be available in its Dutch language version but that could change in the future. Brussels Airlines spokesperson Nico Cardone told Travel Tomorrow that Lufthansa Group have expressed a keen interest in English and other language versions being made available.
