Looking at Google Flights’ 2025 Summer Travel Trends report, US travellers are looking to spend their Summer holiday in hot and tropical places. Curaçao, a constituent Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela which is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in particular seems to be interesting American travellers.

There are many reasons why Curaçao meets such great success amongst travellers. Firstly, its climate. Maximum temperatures on the island fluctuate around 30°C all year round and at the same time, the island is situated at the edge of the hurricane zone, meaning hurricanes are relatively rare.

Secondly, the island’s landscape. There are more than 30 white-sand beaches on Curaçao such as Playa Kenepa, Cas Abao, and Playa Jeremi. Combined with the azure blue water and tropical greenery they make the island a very summery place to hang out. Moreover, it makes it the ideal destination for many outdoor activities, from snorkeling and scuba diving to windsurfing and flyboarding. The colourful houses which can be found in the villages and cities only add to the charm of the island.

Thirdly, despite its small footprint, Curaçao has a very rich history and culture. European, African, Latin American, and Indian influences mix together, while three official languages can be heard on the island: Papiamentu, Dutch, and English. A large amount of Dutch forts can be visited on the island, plantation homes are remnants of the past and part of the capital Willemstad is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cultural mix also translates into a very interesting culinary scene, promising to keep your taste buds entertained.

Beach destinations and other travel trends

Curaçao may have come out at the top of the ranking but other Caribbean islands such as St. Lucia and Aruba also figure among the most popular locations. For flights departing from the US between 1 July 2025 and 31 August 2025, these are the 10 most popular international destinations.

The Travel Trends report also unveiled that people are opting for outdoorsy destinations, with cabins being one of the most trending key words for those looking for a place to stay. And while people used to prefer carry-ons over checked bags, travellers now seem to be searching for ways in which they can pack more than ever, including vacuum bags and compression packing cubes.

One such destination is Curaçao, which managed to exceed the 700,000 visitor benchmark, achieving a record 700,249 stayover arrivals in 2024, the Curaçao Tourist Board has announced. This represents a strong 20% increase compared to 2023, with 117,844 more stayover visitors during the year. Besides the 700,249 stayover arrivals, the island also welcomed 35,499 day-trippers, and 834,922 cruise passengers, resulting in a total of 1,570,670 tourist arrivals.

This milestone highlights the growing appeal of our island’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality.

The remarkable growth is attributed by the board to strategic efforts to maintain visibility in key source markets, which positioned Curaçao as a destination where travellers can “Feel it for yourself”. “This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our partners, stakeholders, the community, and, most importantly, our valued guests,” the tourism board said in a statement.

Wrapping up the year, like the cherry on top, the month of December marked a record in itself, being the first time Curaçao welcomed over 70,000 (73,669) stayover arrivals in a single month, a 16% increase compared to December 2023, particularly driven by the island’s primary source market, the Netherlands, followed by the United States and Colombia.

In December 2024, Curaçao welcomed 25,255 visitors from the Netherlands, 9% more than the 23,111 arrivals in the last month of 2023. The average length of stay for visitors from the Netherlands was 13.9 nights.

The USA also remained a vital market for Curaçao, with a 30% rise in arrivals. A total of 19,069 Americans travelled to the island in December 2024, compared to 14,714 in December 2023. Visitors from the USA stayed an average of 6.4 nights, with most arrivals originating from New York, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Georgia.

Lastly, while remaining the third largest source market, slightly above Canada (4,957) and Brazil (4,245), Colombian arrivals showed a small decline, totalling 5,330 visitors in December 2024, down 1% from 5,405 in December 2023, with visitors spending an average of 7.3 nights on the island.

With an average of three cases a day of Covid-19 in recent weeks, Curaçao has lifted all restrictions, bidding farewell to the curfew it had previously implemented. Authorities have allowed full-capacity at restaurants and bars with terraces.

According to Travel Weekly, Paul Pennicook pointed out an increase in international arrivals in July, which totaled more than 34,000 visitor and was 92% of the pre-pandemic July 2019.

Located in the southern Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela and at a distance of 113 kilometers from Aruba, Curaçao has a multitude of beaches to get lost among translucent waters and white sands, rediscover its colorful capital Willemstad, encounter the most unique marine inhabitants while snorkeling and visit caves among breathtaking landscapes.

American Airlines has daily flight from Miami and will add a second flight every Saturday from November 6 to December 11 with plans to operate a second daily flight starting December 16. JetBlue currently offers twice-weekly flights from New York JFK. Nonstop flights from Newark on United are set to resume on a weekly basis from November 6 while the weekly nonstop from Charlotte begins Saturday operations on December 4.

Entry conditions for all travelers

These general requirements apply to all visitors regardless if you are traveling from a low risk or high risk country:

• You have not been in contact with a person who tested positively for COVID-19 within 14 days prior to arrival. If this is the case, you will be placed in mandatory quarantine.
• You must carry a printed or digital document of proof of the mandatory steps at all times during your travel.
• You must be adequately insured for medical care and any additional costs if you are quarantined or become ill during your stay.
• If you do not meet the above conditions, you may be quarantined on arrival. This is entirely at your own expense.
• There are currently no exemptions for visitors who have been fully vaccinated.

The aviation industry still suffers from a crucial lack of perspective. Air Belgium, as all citizens, is compelled to follow day-to-day changes and developments. The airline is constantly trying to adjust without being able to foresee the consequences of the announcements and decisions taken by the various authorities, whether Belgian, French and/or Caribbean. For this reason and after careful consideration, Air Belgium prefers to plan for a resumption of its passenger flights to the Caribbean from July 2^nd.

“We prefer to choose wisdom since, on the Belgian side, the requirement to present essential reasons for travelling has already been extended twice since the beginning of this year 2021. Also, Martinique has just been reclassified as a red zone by Belgium and joins Guadeloupe, which has also been a red zone for a few weeks. At the same time, the French government still imposes compelling reasons to travel to Guadeloupe and Martinique. According to information received and collected from local stakeholders, these compelling travel conditions are not expected to be lifted for several weeks”, Niky Terzakis, CEO d’Air Belgium.

Air Belgium expects that by July 2^nd, the various vaccination campaigns and the implementation of the European Vaccination Certificate will have progressed and will allow free travel within the European Union, of which Martinique and the Islands of Guadeloupe are part.

To provide more flexibility for travellers who may need to reschedule, Air Belgium is pleased to confirm that they will not interrupt their flight schedule to Fort-de-France during the months of September and October 2021. Flights to Martinique will be operated continuously from July 2^nd onwards. Flights to the islands of Guadeloupe will resume on July 2^nd and will also operate continuously except from September 1^st to October 15^th, 2021.

A new route to the Caribbean starting on July 3^rd: Curaçao

Air Belgium is expanding its services to the Caribbean by launching a flight from Brussels Charleroi airport to Curaçao via Fort-de-France airport in Martinique.

After launching flights to the French Antilles in December 2019, it is a logical step for the airline to offer the Netherlands Antilles. While the French Antilles naturally attract more French-speaking customers (from Belgium or northern France), the Netherlands Antilles appeal more to Dutch-speaking customers (from Belgium or the southern Netherlands).

Flights to Curaçao are now open for booking and will take off on July 3^rd. The flight time between Fort-de-France and Curaçao is one hour and thirty minutes. Passengers in transit to/from Curaçao remain on board the aircraft during the stopover in Fort-de-France.
